3D Computer Graphic Compression

Nowadays, 3D graphical models have become commonplace in most computer graphics related industries. The accuracy and realism of these 3D graphics are achieved by fine geometric details which present challenges in rendering performance; transmission bandwidth; and storage capacities. All these motivate a need for compressing geometric data. In this paper, I talk about two compression techniques for 3D computer graphics: Connectivity Encoding Techniques and Polyhedral Simplification Techniques. I go into detail about how these two kinds of technique work. What are the advantages and disadvantages? At the end, I discuss how to use these two techniques to compress 3D motion graphics.
